Breast Health

Breast awareness, or knowing what is normal for your breasts, is the first step to managing breast health. The best way to ensure ongoing breast health, and to learn what is normal for your breasts as they change in sensitivity and texture throughout your menstrual cycle, is to conduct regular breast self-exams. While we recommend conducting breast self-exams monthly, it is also important to schedule annual mammograms. Women between the ages of 35-40 are eligible for a single baseline screening mammogram; the American Cancer Society recommends that women, without abnormal symptoms, begin annual screening mammography at age 40. Women with a family history of breast cancer may have mammograms performed earlier.
